Fire Restriction in Effect Outside Peace River FPA

Alert type
Fire Restriction

A Fire Restriction is in place for areas of the County of Northern Lights outside of the Peace River Forest Protection Area (FPA).

Due to current dry conditions and dry fuels (grass), A fire restriction is now in effect for areas of the County outside the FPA.

Prohibited:

  • All outdoor wood fires not contained within a non-combustible fire pit.
  • Wood campfires in backcountry or random camping areas.
  • Fireworks and exploding targets.

Allowed:

  • Safe wood campfires (including charcoal briquettes) in public and private campgrounds.
  • Backyard fire pits on private land.
  • BBQs and smokers that use solid fuels (wood chips or pellets, charcoal briquettes, etc.)
  • Propane, natural gas, or electrically powered cooking, heating, and lighting appliances.
  • Open flame oil devices (turkey deep fryers, tiki torches)
  • Indoor wood fires contained within a device with a chimney and spark arrestor.

When operating equipment, clear debris from moving parts, check your muffler and keep equipment in good repair. Do not operate equipment in tall grass. Keep watch of your surroundings and ensure you have sufficient firefighting equipment and water available. Equipment fires or work-related sparks, friction and hot exhaust can cause even small amounts of dry fuels to ignite into a wildfire and spread easily.

Extreme caution should be exercised with any fire at this time.

Never leave a fire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again, until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished. If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE or 911.

The fire restriction will remain in effect until conditions improve.
