Councillor Gloria Dechant would like to issue the following statement regarding comments made at the June 17 Joint Ratepayer Meeting.
"I would like to offer a sincere apology to Ward 5 ratepayers and to all ratepayers who attended the Wards 4, 5, and 6 Ratepayers Meeting on June 17, 2026, held at the County Chambers.
During the question-and-answer period, Ward 5 resident Al Yasinski asked me whether any ratepayers had expressed opposition to the proposed nuclear power project. I answered "no". I would like to take this opportunity to retract my answer with a ‘yes’. I have spoken with residents who have shared a wide range of perspectives, including concerns, questions, requests for more information, in favour and opposition to, the project.
My response that evening did not accurately reflect those conversations, and for that, I sincerely apologize.
I would also like to apologize to my fellow Councillors and County administration who attended the meeting. It is important that the information shared at public meetings is accurate and reflects the views of our residents.
I feel it is important to publicly correct the record, both to clear my conscience and to maintain the trust and respect of the ratepayers I have the privilege to represent.
Thank you to everyone who continues to engage in these important conversations and a shared commitment to the future of our municipality."
