Manning RCMP asks drivers to avoid aggressive driving this August

Type(s)
Public Engagement & Awareness

Manning, Alta. – Aggressive driving results in an unnecessary increased risk of a dangerous or deadly outcome, and Manning RCMP wants everyone to focus on civilized driving behaviour this August.

Aggressive driving includes a range of risky behaviours that are intentional and not due to driver error. These include:

  • excessive speed and street racing
  • running stop signs
  • tailgating
  • weaving in and out of traffic
  • failing to yield
  • swearing, yelling, and gesturing at other drivers, cyclists, or pedestrians
  • other driving actions undertaken in an aggressive manner

These are behaviours not related to road conditions, weather, or other factors outside a driver's control. They are choices a driver makes while driving and their response to other road users.

To avoid an aggressive driving or road rage incident, we recommend the following:

  • Plan ahead and give yourself enough extra time to get where you are going safely.
  • Minimize other stress – if you are already having “one of those days” consider taking alternate means of transportation or waiting until you are calmer
  • Be patient – all road users have different levels of experience; mistakes can happen, try to be courteous
  • Remove yourself from the situation – if you feel a traffic situation is becoming overly frustrating, consider pulling over until you can proceed calmly.

“These actions endanger lives, increase crash risks, and create unsafe roads for everyone. Drive responsibly to protect yourself and others as we at the Manning RCMP want everyone to make it to their destination safely.” – Cpl. Fogarty
