Manning RCMP is reminding Albertans to make responsible choices on the road this holiday season. Impaired driving is preventable, and planning ahead helps ensure everyone gets home safely.
Some tips to avoid impaired driving:
- Plan your ride before drinking or using substances.
- Choose a designated driver who stays sober for the trip home.
- Stay overnight if driving isn’t safe after a celebration.
- If you’re hosting, offer non-alcoholic options and monitor guests’ alcohol consumption.
- Step in when needed — don’t let friends or family drive impaired. Help them find a safe ride.
- Impairment isn’t limited to alcohol. Drugs and some prescription medications can also affect your ability to drive.
- If you’re the designated driver, stay alcohol and drug-free, and take pride in helping yourself and others get home safely.
“Drinking and driving isn’t just illegal, it’s a selfish choice with potentially catastrophic consequences. One poor decision can irrevocably change many lives, directly and indirectly, in an instant. Please help keep our roads safe: don’t drink and drive and celebrate responsibly. We at the Manning RCMP wish you all a safe, joyful, and merry Christmas and a happy new year!” – Cpl. David Fogarty
