Public Engagement & Awareness

The proposed nuclear power project in the Peace Region is under the jurisdiction of the federal and provincial governments.

Municipalities, including the County of Northern Lights, do not have decision-making authority regarding whether the project is approved, licensed, or built.

However, Council recognizes the importance of understanding the views of our residents on this issue. The following questions are non-binding and are intended only to gauge public opinion within the County.

The results will help inform the Council’s advocacy and participation in discussions with other levels of government and regional stakeholders.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT A VOTE OF THE ELECTORS WILL BE HELD ON THE FOLLOWING TWO QUESTIONS:

  1. Do you support the County of Northern Lights engaging with residents, businesses, and other levels of government to explore the potential impacts and benefits of a nuclear power plant within the County or neighbouring County?
