Here are your highlights from the July 14, 2026 Council meeting

Community Initiatives, Engagement, and Advocacy

  • Continuing membership with the Community Rail Advocacy Alliance (CRAA) and issuing the annual membership payment of $2,000.00 to help support CRAA's advocacy efforts, such as reliable and equitable rail systems to help rural communities, economies, and industries get their products to market
  • Council proclaims September 21 – 27 as Rail Safety Week in the County
  • Councillors Brenda Yasinski, Gary These, and Reeve Terry Ungarian will attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour at the Northern Lakes College Fairview Campus
  • Council will invite Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) executives to a meeting in August. RMA Executives meet with members on a three-year rotation.  This meeting helps RMA gain a deeper understanding of the County’s local priorities, initiatives, and challenges

Protective Services

  • Council approved the creation of a Regional Fire Chief position, with the position reporting directly to CAO, and the Executive Compensation Policy to be amended to include the position with a range of $105,000 to $130,000

Infrastructure

  • AAA Striping and Seal Coating Services was awarded the crack sealing tender contract for $44,097.90 
  • Fire hydrant replacement on Main Street in Dixonville with funds coming from Fire Protection Capital Reserve

Public Works

  • An additional full-time equipment operator position will be created

Agricultural Services

  • Councillors Gary These, Brenda Yasinski, and Gloria Dechant will attend NPARA’s Farm tour
