Here are your highlights from the August 11, 2026 Council meeting

Community Initiatives, Engagement, and Advocacy

  • Deputy Reeve Kayln Schug will attend the 2026 ABMUNIS Convention. The ABMUNIS Convention provides an opportunity for Councillors to take part in various educational workshops, panel discussions with Ministers, and attend a Q&A session with Premier Danielle Smith
  • The County will be donating mini first aid kits for attendee bags at the 2026 RhPAP Rural Healthcare Conference in Peace River
  • Councillor Gary These will represent the County at the Royal Canadian Legion Peace River Branch No. 62 Home Coming Welcome Dinner in September to recognize all the sponsors of the Centenary Mural
  • Minister Eleanor Olszewski, Minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience and Minister responsible for PrairiesCan, has invited representatives from the County to discuss current opportunities and challenges, and other issues of importance to the Region. Reeve Terry Ungarian, Councillor Gary These, and CAO Gerhard Stickling will attend the meeting at the end of August
  • Michael Walker of Associated Engineering led Council through a grant writing presentation. Council will invite Michael back for a more in-depth presentation in the coming weeks
  • Council will provide a letter of support for the Alberta Community Partnership (ACP) grant application to help with the costs of updating the Peace Regional ICF (Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework) agreement with the Town of Peace River, Northern Sunrise County, and MD of Peace

Infrastructure & Properties

  • Council discussed concerns of unsightly properties in North Star and has directed Administration to add an Unsightly Properties Bylaw to a future Ordinance meeting and to send letters to the North Star residents with unsightly properties under Section 546 of the Municipal Government Act (MGA)

Bylaws & Policies

  • Council gave third and final reading to Land Use Bylaw Amendment #26-61-511; reverting a property located at NW-36-84-22-W5 from M1 (General Industrial) back to AR (Agricultural Restricted)

Economic Development

  • The County will continue with the Rural Renewal Stream Community program
