WILDFIRE WEST OF NOTIKEWIN

June 5: 2019 9:00 AM Notice: This fire is now BEING HELD at 3,992 hectares in size 20 kms west of Hotchkiss.  Due to the rain and cooler temperatures, the fire behavior has been quiet. Helicopters, heavy equipment and firefighters will continue to work towards fortifying the guard around the fire perimeter again today.

June 1, 2019 9:00 AM Notice: As of last night the Notikewin Fire (PWF 047) did not see any growth as fires burned within previous boundaries. 85% of the dozer guard has been completed and more work will continue on this today.

There are currently 21 dozers, 7 nodwells, 6 excavators,  10 helicopters and 65 firefighters working to control this fire.

We ask residents to please stay clear of wildfire operations especially when aircraft are flying in the area.

May 31, 2018 10:00 AM Notice: The size of the Notikewin Fire (PWF 047) as of last night is 3,992.62 hectares. 50% of the dozer guards was completed and more work will continue on this today.

There are currently 21 dozers, 7 nodwells, 6 excavators,  6 helicopters and 98 firefighters working to control this fire.

We ask residents to please stay clear of wildfire operations especially when aircraft are flying in the area.

May 29, 2018 8:30 PM Notice: Forestry has communicated that the Notikewin Fire (PWF 047) was relatively quiet today. The fire has not spread substantially since yesterday. Crew were able to get 30% of the dozer guard completed.

Heavy equipment, helicopters and firefighters will be working on the fire again tomorrow.

For your safety and the safety of firefighters, please stay clear of wildfire operations especially when aircraft are flying in the area. We appreciate your support.

May 29, 2018 10:30 AM Notice: The County of Northern Lights is in close and constant communication with Alberta Forestry and their wildfire response.

A 16 man wildfire management team from Ontario has been deployed along with 4 complete dozer groups to combat the fire.   Teams on the ground and in the air are assessing the extent and movement of the fire.
