Temporary Bed Closure Extended at Manning Hospital
Alberta Health Service has released the following memorandum regarding temporary bed closure at the Manning Community Health Centre.
"Due to continued nursing staff vacancies at Manning Community Health Centre, Alberta Health Services (AHS) has made the decision to extend the temporary closure of acute care beds in the facility.
Six of the 11 acute/medical patient beds at Manning Community Health Centre will be temporarily closed until Sept. 30, 2023. Five acute care beds remain open at the facility.
These beds may re-open sooner if staffing levels permit.
These temporary closures allow us to reduce staffing needs and focus on providing quality care to our patients.
All existing services, including the Emergency Department, remain open at the site.
We understand this decision may create concern in your community, but be assured this is a temporary measure to ensure we are providing safe and high quality health care to our patients. There are no plans to reduce health care services in Manning.
The Manning Community Health Centre is an important facility that provides quality care and AHS wants it to be operating safely at full capacity as soon as possible.
Clinical service sustainability in rural communities continues to be an issue across the province due to workforce supply/demand issues. AHS is aware of these issues, and we have a dedicated team in place focused on implementing solutions to support recruitment efforts.
AHS’ goal is always to keep sites operating as normal, and to ensure that all patients receive safe care.
We appreciate the unwavering dedication of our healthcare teams to their patients, and we continue to support them, and work with them, though challenging times such as this to ensure safe care for patients, and safe and healthy working conditions for staff.
We will continue to keep the community updated as additional information becomes available"
